Charity FAQs

When did Sparkle become a charity and what is your registered charity number?

Sparkle was formed in 2005, and became a registered charity (Sparkle - The National Transgender Charity) in 2011.
Our registered charity number is 1134725. To learn more about our Charity, see our About Us page.

How do I get in touch?

Please see our Contact Form above for general enquiries.

Or you can always email info@sparkle.org.uk.

I’m struggling and need support - can you help?

Sparkle is not a direct support service for people who are struggling. However, there are so many amazing organisations which can help. We have created a Resources Page which signposts support for sexual health, trans-specific healthcare (NHS and private), housing, mental health, hate crime signposting, and social support.

Why do we have an exit button on our website?

Exit buttons allow people to immediately leave the website when clicked. They redirect the you to another website in its place.

This is a standard feature on websites offering support and information to children and vulnerable people, and is seen on many LGBTQ+ charities’ websites.  We understand that unfortunately, not everybody is supportive of trans and gender diverse people.
We hope that this exit button enables people to feel safe when viewing our website.

Sparkle’s exit button links you to Google’s Homepage when clicked.

Do you have paid staff?

At the moment, Sparkle doesn't have any paid staff or sessional workers. Instead, we’re lucky to have an amazing team of volunteers who are super passionate about our mission. In fact, in 2024, our volunteers will contribute a massive 13,059 hours to Sparkle! While this volunteer model works for now, we know it won’t be sustainable in the long run. That’s why we’re working on a development plan to bring in paid staff so we can keep growing and doing more for the community, while also supporting the incredible people who make Sparkle what it is today.

Do you have an office I can visit?

Right now, Sparkle doesn't have a physical office space where you can visit us, but we’re hoping to change that soon! Our team is spread out and works remotely, but we're on the lookout for a permanent base in Greater Manchester. Having a proper office will make it easier for us to meet up, plan events, and connect with our community. If you know of any suitable spaces that might work for us, feel free to send us a message—we’d love to hear your ideas!

Do you take donations?

Yes, we accept donations, and they’re super important for keeping Sparkle running! We rely on the generosity of people like you—whether it’s individuals or organisations—who believe in what we’re doing and want to help. You can donate easily on our website, and every little bit counts. Whether it’s a one-off or monthly contribution, your donation helps us fund projects, support volunteers, and continue to make a positive impact on the community.

Do you accept legacy funds?

Yes, we do accept legacy donations, and we honestly can’t think of a more meaningful way to make a lasting impact! If you’re considering leaving something to Sparkle in your will, we’d be so grateful. Legacy funds help secure the future of Sparkle, allowing us to keep doing the work we love for years to come. If you want to chat more about how you can leave a legacy donation, just drop us an email at funding@sparkle.org.uk. We’d love to talk to you about it and how it can make a real difference in the future of our charity.

I’m trans and need support - can you help?

Although Sparkle is not a direct support service, you are always welcome to email us at info@sparkle.org.uk and we can see who is best placed to support you. You can also check out our Support Page to see a directory of some amazing LGBTQ+ support organisations. Our monthly Sanctuary sessions are a place for relaxation, wellbeing and connections for the gender diverse community. Our friendly team will always be on hand to chat and answer any questions.
